Keep'n it Real

Liebi Children 1949

I am back at work now and gotta say, that a full time job really gets in the way of crafting!

Another setback for me has been the rising price of gas. I need to get three little things from Joannes in order to finish a few projects. Each night last week I thought about going, but I only had a quarter tank of gas and I was trying to put off a fill up. Joannes is out in the valley, so I have to cross Laurel Canyon to get there. It really is uphill both ways. The thought of spending $40 on gas just turns me off. Now, that's sad. Today I filled up at the "cheap" station ($3.89) and maybe tonight will be the night.

I have also cut back on the thrifting. I have just stopped at the one store that is on my way home from work. I did find a great chair for my sewing table. Alas,I went to the grocery store on that same trip home and I couldn't carry everything in. That great chair that I *had* to have is still in my car!

Is anyone else cutting back on the crafting or thrifting lately because of rising prices?

Anyway, I have been blogging about preparing for a potential disaster for the folks at California Volunteers. They gave me a wonderful survival back pack and I am working on filling out our disaster plan. But, I must confess that more of my time has been spent archiving our family photos on Flickr. I scanned hundreds of photos while I was at my parents house in Florida. Those cuties up there are my father with his older brother and sister. If there was a disaster, knowing that the family pictures are backed up somewhere on the net would make me feel better! I doubt that is what they meant by bloggigng about disaster preparedness, but hey it's true!

A great idea about flickr and archiving. I could also refer relatives to the site when they ask for copies.

I have cut back on some things. It's the unplanned but necessary trips that will get you. Had to drive to Richmond last night (150 mile round trip). Tonights was a 20 mile trip to pick up a package that turned out not to be available after I was assured that it was.

Our Joann's is out of the way and inconvenient too. They closed down the close, convenient one because it was too small. Considering I'm technically unemployed, I don't drive as much because of the whole gas thing. Today was in fact the first time I left my house since Sunday and it was for a Dr.'s appt (3 min away)and a visit to my mom's house (10 min away) tomorrow there is physical therapy (also 3 min away) and that will about do me :-) Today I went to the gas station that charges 4¢ more per gallon if you charge it. arg! So to make a long story short (I know, TOO LATE), I'm avoiding things because of the gas prices too.

I haven't cut back on crafting, but I've been trying to work with the supplies (A LOT!) that I already have. Sometimes I can't finish a project until I get something else, but I'm trying to save those something elses for one trip. We have several Joanns but none are close to me :(

I'm definitely cutting back because of the rising prices. You can barely afford to GET to work anymore! I'm not going home (to NY) this summer because of the fuel prices, we've cut back on our entertainment (used to go to the movies once a month), and we try our hardest to get what we need to get on the way home from work and that's it for the night, no going back to town (we live about 10 miles from town). I am SERIOUSLY considering moving closer to work, but that in and of itself is pricey...just to move. I need to way the pros and cons. I'm definitely giving it serious thought.

Definitely cutting back on driving, shopping and thrifting. Our Joann's is on the other side of town. I've been trying to do some stash busting and picking up any sewing incidentals at Walmart. I haven't been to a thrift shop in at least a month. I've even been cutting down on the groceries I buy. Trying to use more of what's already in the cupboard. Let me tell you, we've had some interesting meals!
