In LA Halloween is our Fall

Last year my students inspired a last minute craft project.  I thought I would run it again for the DIY Fall Festival. Fall doesn't really come to LA, but Halloween...we have that covered!

Skull Votive Candle

During our unit Mystery to Medicine I shared the films from an MRI I had many years ago. I didn't expect it, but they were freaked out by the images. Previously, I had looked at those films with both relief (I didn't have anything wrong!) and scientific curiosity. The Crayons saw skulls! Scary, spooky skulls!

Ahh ha! Inspiration was born! I had been looking for an opportunity to use photo transfer tutorial for months! I had the votive holder, the clear contact paper and a photo copy of the MRI. It was an easy peasy ten minute craft!

Just in case you want to try this project and are lacking an MRI image of your own ...
Here are three of mine! Simply right click on this picture to download it. Print it out and make a photocopy. (Somehow the photocopy ink is what's needed for the transfer.) Transfer the image onto contact paper. Cut it out and adhere it to the votive candle holder. Again see the tutorial above. It's very easy and a lot of fun!

Other images that would make creepy cool votives:
We have friends who married on Halloween- this image would suit them.

Have a great Monday!

That is really neat ... its got the "mad scientist" vibe! Definitely a great idea for Halloween decor - even with a personal touch! :)
