Thoughtful Or Cheap?

Water Color Girl

This is my colleague's daughter. Today she saw our class portraits and asked me to make one of her daughter. The child's school is having some sort of contest and she plans to use this as the cover page for her project. Anyway, I whipped it up after dinner tonight. I think it turned out pretty nice and it was quite easy to do. (It was after all a fourth grade project!) If I could show you the original photo you would see that it's not perfect, but clearly her daughter.

So here is my question, would this make a nice holiday gift for a mama friend? If it was your own child could you overlook the cheap and easy quality?

I would mat and frame the picture for gift giving. Check out the tutorial and see what you think.

I think it's a great idea! At first I thought you painted the whole thing from scratch and I couldn't believe you said you "whipped it up after dinner".

I think it would be an awesome gift. (WTH? Your comment box is all wierd? This is Sarah in case it posts as anon.)

Are you kidding?!?

I can't think of a parent who wouldn't be thrilled with a portrait, even a quick watercolor.

I had tried to leave a message before I left for the weekend but it wouldn't take. I love this project and am trying to think if I could get my almost 5 year olds to do something like it for Mother's Day. And then I thought of other photos that I have taken that might look good also. It opens up so many possibilities.

And in answer to your question :-) it makes a perfect gift for anyone.

I just noticed this post in the "You might also like" section. Let me say, I would LOVE something like this of my kids. No matter how "cheap and easy" it is, it's awesome and so personalized. In fact, if it's a fourth grade project you have them do, I would love to know more details, because I would love to try my hand at it to do some paintings of my own kids, but have no idea where to start.
