OK, so I did come up with something new for the CSI Martha challenge after all. Remember this tote bag fail?
From Fail to Fixed!
While browsing my Encyclopedia I thinking, "What can I do that is new?" I actually found a solution for my old tote bag problem.
The book has many suggestions for embellishing existing tote bags. Voila! Target dollar spot has $2 straw bags! Problem solved! I cut out the embroidered vintage style Texas map that I made and used super strong Wonder Under to iron it on to the straw bag. Then I hot glued some ric rack along the edge. I was really happy with how well the heavy duty Wonder Under worked. It's on there.
My Aunt Jean was such a wonderful hostess during our stay in Texas. In addition to throwing a beautiful wedding for her daughter, she hosted the whole family for meal after meal in her home. I was disappointed that I didn't have the bag done to give her as a hostess gift. Now I like the new version much better anyway and it will now become a thank you gift.
You can read about how I used Citra-Solv to make this embroidery pattern here.

Oh, I like this so much! I love the embroidery, and felt like the original bag just didn't do it justice. This, on the other hand, is PERFECT. Love, love, love it.
Your blog is my favorite. I wish you had time to update it daily with your great projects. But I also want you to have a life, so I'll just have to live with the time you find to gift us with your ideas.
Your aunt will be very pleased.
Perfect! You nailed it! I've been wanting to pick up the sewing encyclopedia. I have the craft one. I don't know what I'm waiting for.
That turned out really cute!
I'm amazed that the WonderUnder held on the bag. So good to know! I might try some decoupage on an old straw hat.
